Kudos to the Dutch for creating Amsterdam; the place feels so free and wonderfully intelligent. Bikes whisper and tinkle past my window in the evening leaving snatches of conversation as they go. Thoughtful conversation. I can hear that without a word of Dutch. The peacefulness of the city is also impressive. It's the bikes. Old banged up things in plain colours for the most part. I could spend a month here but I only have a day.
